Current Candidates
The offices listed below will be voted on during the 2008 election. We will list candidates for these offices as we become aware of them.
Please note that all district boundaries described below are approximate and are subject to change. Be sure to check with the DuPage Election Commission to determine which races you are eligible to vote in.
County and Local Offices
County Board District 1
District 1 is mostly in other townships, but it does include part of York, namely the section of Elmhurst north of St. Charles Rd. and east of the Canadian National Railroad.

Rifat "James" Sivisoglu is a faculty member at the Elmhurst College Center for Business and Economics. Starting as the child of a struggling immigrant family, Rifat went on to a career in business management, including serving as a director with Alcatel and structuring and negotiating a $40 million international manufacturing joint venture. As a member of the DuPage County Board his top priorities will be restoring fiscal responsibility and challenging the "group-think" of the current Republican board. |

Rita Gonzalez is an Addison mother and award-winning organizer and community activist who has successfully fought to defend the rights of DuPage Latin@s to fair housing. |
Forest Preserve Board District 1
The forest preserve districts are the same as the ones for County Board, but they are elected every other year.

County Board District 2
District 2 includes the bulk of York Township, any parts not in districts 1 or 4.

Barb Dahl is a Villa Park community activist campaigning on issues including fiscal responsibility and governmental openness. |

Max Havlick is an author and resident of Villa Park, running on a platform of civic education and balanced representation in county government. |
County Board District 4
While most of District 4 lies outside of York, it does include a small portion of York which is west of Lombard's Main Street and north of Roosevelt Rd.

Richard Dunn is an Army National Guard veteran and an urban planner with well over thirty years experience, as well as a frequent volunteer on behalf of numerous worthy causes. His campaign issues include governmental reform, protection of the environment, and strengthening resident rights. |

Dan Bailey is a long-time Democrat and union member, the founding president of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 184. |
Clerk of the Circuit Court
Republican Chris Kachiroubas presently holds this job.

County Recorder
This role is currently filled by Republican Fred Bucholz.
Candidates:

State Offices
State Representative District 41
About half of York Township is within this district, anything not listed as within 42 or 46. The seat is currently held by Republican Bob Biggins.
State Representative District 42
This district includes some of the western and central portions of York, including Downers Grove, western and southern Lombard, and the western half of Oakbrook Terrace. Republican Sandra Pihos currently represents this district.
State Representative District 46
The 46th includes the northernmost sections of York, generally everything north of St. Charles Rd. Currently Republican Dennis Reboletti holds this seat.

An ex-marine, Elmhurst resident Gary Nowak has served as a bank commercial loan officer for over twenty years. His key issues include education, health care, taxes, and the environment. |
State Senate District 21
All of York Township is within this district except for what is in the 23rd (see below). Republican Dan Cronin is the current holder of this seat.

Mr. Ghani is an MBA and former candidate for mayor of Oak Brook. His campaign issues include health care, retirement security, energy independence, and the economy. |
State Senate District 23
The 23rd includes the northernmost sections of York, generally everything north of St. Charles Rd. Currently Republican Carole Pankau holds this seat.

Federal Offices
US Congress District 6
This district includes most of York Township (everything except that which is within the 13th). The current holder of this office is Republican Peter Roskam.

director of homeland security for Illinois in the Blagojevich administration. Her platform includes securing the country's borders against
undocumented immigrants and expanding health care coverage.

US Congress District 13
This includes the southeast corner of York -- Hinsdale, most of Oak Brook, and Westmont. The current holder of this office is Republican Judy Biggert.

bringing the troops home from Iraq and single-payer health care for all Americans. |
US Senator for Illinois
Democrat Richard Durbin currently serves in this office.

from Illinois since 1996, and is currently the Assistant Majority Leader in the Senate. |

Republican George W. Bush is the current occupant of this office.
Candidates:

Dennis Kucinich announced his candidacy on December 12, 2006. Congressman Kucinich has been among the most strident and consistent opponents of the Iraq war, and has spearheaded the drive to impeach Dick Cheney for crimes against the Constitution. He champions an unabashedly progressive platform which includes single-payer universal health care and pulling out of NAFTA and the WTO. |

John Edwards announced his candidacy on December 28, 2006. A former Senator and the 2004 Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee, this charismatic southern gentleman lists fighting poverty and extending health care to the uninsured as among his priorities. |

Joe Biden announced his candidacy on Jenuary 8, 2007. Senator Biden was the author of the Violence Against Women Act and is currently the chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. His plan for Iraq would partition it into three separate regions. |

Chris Dodd announced his candidacy on January 11, 2007. The son of one of the lead prosecuters at Nuremberg, Senator Dodd is the founder of the Senate Children's Caucus, the author of the Family and Medical Leave Act, and currently chairs the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. |

Bill Richardson announced his candidacy on January 22, 2007. Richardson has served as a Congressman, as ambassador to the United Nations, and as Energy Secretary, and is currently Governor of New Mexico. He supports a full withdrawl from Iraq and a health care plan based on extending existing sources of coverage. "While diplomacy without power is weak," says Richardson, "power without diplomacy is blind." |

Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy on January 22, 2007. Senator Clinton is well known as the former First Lady and current Senator from the state of New York. Her campaign touts her experience in fighting against the right wing. |

Mike Gravel announced his candidacy on April 17, 2007. A former U.S. Senator from Alaska, Gravel was an opponent of the Vietnam war who exposed the Pentagon Papers to the public. His platform is a mix of progressive ideas (single-payer health care, withdrawal from Iraq) and ones that are more liberatrian (replacing the federal income tax with a sales tax, and direct voting on laws by the public). Senator Gravel did not qualify for the ballot in Illinois. |

Barack Obama announced his candidacy on May 2, 2007. Senator Obama is a first-term Senator from Illinois who previously served in the Illinois State Senate. Obama spoke out against the war early on, and currently favors a phased withdrawal. His campaign stresses themes of hope and inclusion. |
